Summerlee: New Stories, New Audiences, Better Lives Project.
We’re delighted to announce that we will be providing cost consultancy services for the redevelopment of Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life - an important cultural and historical landmark in Scotland.
Following the site-wide masterplan developed in 2022 for North Lanarkshire Council, and working alongside Page\Park Architects, Harley Haddow and Cundall, we are excited to play a key role in shaping the future of this significant museum.
The redevelopment will expand the Museum’s focus to better represent Scotland’s social history, particularly the impact of deindustrialisation up to the closure of Ravenscraig in the early 1990s. This transformation will create engaging new spaces for visitors while preserving the site’s rich industrial heritage.
A key aspect of the ‘Summerlee: New Stories, New Audiences, Better Lives’ redevelopment project will be to reimagine and enhance the Museum’s outdoor spaces, showcasing the remarkable transformation of this former industrial site as nature has reclaimed the landscape. Page/Park Architects will lead this exciting phase of the project, bringing their expertise in heritage and landscape design to create engaging, immersive spaces that connect visitors with the site’s unique history and environment.
Key Elements of the Project:
• Expanding the miners' village and developing a new welfare community hall
• Creating new galleries and learning spaces to enhance visitor engagement
• Developing an interactive learning landscape to integrate the Museum’s natural surroundings
We are proud to contribute to this exciting project and look forward to seeing its impact on local communities and future generations.
